
Dr. Gerena completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology with minors in Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics, and Microbiology from Universidad de Puerto Rico, Mayaguez, PR. She then graduated from New York Medical College, Valhalla, NY. After attending a residency at St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center in New York, she completed a Cross-Sectional Imaging Fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD.
Dr. Gerena’s expertise includes all abdominal imaging, with a focus on MRI and oncology. Her clinical experience includes developing and spearheading high-volume hepatobiliary and genitourinary/pelvic imaging with an evidence-based approach. She is particularly interested in operational and practice performance improvement and has held leadership roles in quality and patient safety. Before joining BRG, Dr. Gerena held dual appointments in radiology and hepatology at Loyola University Medical Center in Illinois.
Dr. Gerena serves on several national society committees allowing her to bring education, advocacy, and research to her patients, colleagues, and community.
